About EDWIN
EDWIN is a Japanese brand with roots in 1947, when the company behind it was founded; in 1961 the EDWIN label arrived with the first jeans sewn in Japan. The name comes from rearranging the letters of the word DENIM. Il Botteghino's EDWIN selection in Lipari is for men: five pairs of jeans, four of them in Kaihara denim, and three brushed cotton sweatshirts.
Kaihara is a Japanese denim maker based in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture, founded in 1893. The Loose Fit is made in Japan from 13.5 oz Kaihara dark pure indigo rainbow selvage denim in 100% cotton, with a wide fit, mid rise and button fly. The two Regular Tapered styles are also made in Japan from Kaihara Pure Indigo: one in 12.5 oz open-end denim in 100% cotton, the other in a 13 oz stretch version. The Slim Tapered uses 13 oz Kaihara Right Hand Black denim, with a mid rise and zip fly.
The Tyrell is not Kaihara denim: it is cut from 14.6 oz Arctic Blue denim in 100% cotton, with a wide tapered leg and high rise, and is made in Tunisia. The three sweatshirts are 100% brushed cotton at 350 g/m² and made in Portugal: the Axiom Crew, the oversized Ekoda Bath House hoodie and the Soba Yasubé crewneck. Prices range from €120 for the sweatshirts to €190 for the Loose Fit jeans.
Il Botteghino has been a multibrand boutique in Lipari since 1979, at Via Vittorio Emanuele 33/35, where you can try the fit before you buy. We ship to Italy and selected EU countries, with shipping costs shown at checkout, and you can also pick up your order in store.
Frequently asked questions
Is EDWIN a Japanese brand?
Yes. EDWIN comes from Japan: the company dates back to 1947, and the EDWIN label first appeared in 1961 on the first jeans sewn in Japan. The name is an anagram of the word DENIM.
What is Kaihara denim?
It is denim from Kaihara, a Japanese maker based in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture, founded in 1893. In our EDWIN selection, the Loose Fit, both Regular Tapered styles and the Slim Tapered use it; the Tyrell is Arctic Blue denim.
Are EDWIN jeans made in Japan?
Not all of them; it depends on the style. The Loose Fit and both Regular Tapered styles are made in Japan, the Tyrell in Tunisia and the sweatshirts in Portugal. When the country of manufacture is stated, you will find it on each product page.
Is it better to size up or down in EDWIN jeans?
Start with the fit: the Loose Fit is wide, the Tyrell has a wide tapered leg and high rise, the Regular Tapered is a regular fit that narrows toward the hem, and the Slim Tapered is narrower and may shrink up to 3%, so sizing up can make sense if you are between sizes.
